Ingredients
1 (8-oz.) can Crescent dough
3 slices American cheese
12 hot dogs
2 tbsp. melted butter
Dijon mustard
Preparation
Step 1Preheat oven to 375° and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Separate crescent dough into 4 rectangles, pinching together seams as necessary. Cut each rectangle lengthwise into thin strips. Step 2Cut each slice of American cheese into 4 strips. Step 3Place a hot dog on top of a piece of cheese, then wrap with crescent dough to look like bandages. (You’ll need about 4 pieces of crescent dough per hot dog.) Repeat with remaining ingredients. Step 4Place on prepared baking sheet and brush with melted butter. Step 5Bake until crescent dough is golden and cooked through, 12 to 15 minutes. Step 6Using a toothpick, dot mustard onto each hot dog to create eyes.
What should I make besides these for a Halloween party? Mummy hot dogs might be a fun hit but, always always make sure there are plenty of food options. Pumpkin Deviled eggs are adorable and a great 2 biter if you need something quick before hitting the ping pong table Jack O’ Lantern Quesadillas are a fun meal on it’s own. We recommend each person get there own so you can appreciate the cut out! We love the Ghost Smore’s Dip for dessert. Buy your favorite graham crackers for dipping. Peanut Butter Monster Munch is popcorn taken to ten next levels. So good and so easy to munch on! Working with crescent dough Crescent dough comes in a tubular container and usually pre-cut so you can make crecents! However, this recipe requires you to seal those pieces together to make a rectangle. The easiest way to do so it by pinching the dough together. If it helps you can also use a little bit of water to seal. Can you use other types of hot dogs? If you’re not a fan of pork then step right up! Turkey hot dogs and even beef work just as well here. And if you don’t eat meat at all there are great vegan options out there. No one will miss out on these cute halloween bites. If you really like the vegan idea you can also see how to make our fantastic vegan chili dogs. I don’t like American Cheese You can always try another cheese. Some that work great include: cheddar, Swiss, provolone, Monterey jack–for a little heat. How do you add the eyeballs? We used a toothpick to dot on the yellow mustard eyes. You can also use a small piping bag with a tiny cutout. You could also do this with ketchup too! If you want something slightly more authentic buy candy eyeballs at your craft store. Can these be frozen? The good thing about these treats are that they are easy to make and easy to freeze. Assemble them before baking and pop in the freezer until ready to make. Or bake, cool, and freeze for up to a week. How to reheat a mummy hot dog We recommend you eat these once baked off and slightly cooled. But, you can definitely make these and chill for another mealtime. To reheat from the fridge or the freezer turn the oven to 350º to 375º and roast until heated through. The cheese on the bottom may start to get melty again too. For more spooky party ideas, check out our other Halloween appetizers. Made this recipe? Let us know in the comments below!
