Ingredients
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. chili powder
Lime wedges
2 oz. fresh lime juice
2 tsp. hot sauce
Dash of soy sauce
Ice
12 oz. light Mexican beer, such as Modelo or Tecate
Preparation
Step 1On a shallow plate, stir to combine salt and chili powder. Wet rim of large serving glass with lime wedge and dip into chili salt to coat rim.Step 2Combine lime juice, hot sauce, and soy sauce at the bottom of glass and stir to combine. Fill glass with ice, then top with beer. Stir lightly, garnish with a lime wedge and serve.
And, Iof you’ve never had a michelada, you’re in for a treat. The addition of hot sauce and lime juice add a spicy/sour kick that takes your average light beer from good to great. Thanks to our secret ingredient (soy sauce!) there’s also a hint of umami flavor that keeps you coming back for more. If you want to kick the umami up even further, add a splash of Clamato juice, which is typical in Mexico, where the drink originated! Our favorite part about this drink, though, is the chili rim on the edge of the glass. It gives that extra spicy kick that we love about the drink. You could even use Tajín if you have it in your kitchen. Pair your michelada with a loaded fish tacos, we can’t think of a better warm weather meal. Made this?
