Ingredients

3/4 c. Piloncillo sugar (or brown sugar)

1/2 c. water

1/2 c. whole cloves

Peel of 1 orange

4 cinnamon sticks

1 chopped raw almonds

1/4 c. refried beans

1/2 tsp. chili powder

2 tsp. extra-virgin olive oil

1 soft sandwich roll, toasted

1 fried egg

1/4 Sliced avocado

2 slices crispy bacon

Hot sauce, for garnish

Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Preparation

Step 1Make the syrup: Chop the Piloncillo sugar (if using) to break it up. Add all ingredients to a small pot and bring to a boil. Boil for about 6 minutes until liquid is reduced. Remove from heat and strain into heatproof jar to cool. Use as desired in a cup of coffee. We brewed our cup with Krups Savoy Digital Coffee Maker.Step 2Make the sandwich: Mix refried beans with chili powder and olive oil and spread on both sides of the roll. To bottom roll, add a fried egg and top with avocado and bacon. Spoon some hot sauce on top and garnish with cilantro. Top sandwich with bun and serve with Mexican spiced coffee.
