Ingredients
8 slices bread, preferably day old
4 large eggs
1/4 c. whole milk
1 tbsp. granulated sugar
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 tbsp. butter
Cinnamon-sugar, for serving
Maple syrup, for serving
Preparation
Step 1Slice bread into thick “fries” about 1” wide. (If bread is very soft, dry the fries out in a 350° for 10 minutes.) Step 2In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon. In a large nonstick skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Step 3Working one at a time, quickly toss fries in egg mixture until just coated then immediately add to skillet. Cook until golden on all sides, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer cooked fries to a paper towel lined plate and immediately sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Step 4Repeat with remaining ingredients. Serve warm with maple syrup for dunking.
