Ingredients
6 large eggs
1 1/2 c. whole milk
1 c. heavy cream
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
pinch of nutmeg
1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1 loaf white bread, preferably day old
Powdered sugar, for serving
Maple syrup, for serving
strawberries, for serving (optional)
Preparation
Step 1In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, and salt.Step 2Dunk bread slices in the egg mixture then arrange them in a tall baking dish, standing up. Pour extra egg mixture over bread. Cover and refrigerate, 2 hours, or up to overnight.Step 3Bake in oven on 375° until the tops of the bread are golden and crunchy, about 45 minutes. Step 4Sift powdered sugar on top of the French toast bake. Serve warm with maple syrup and strawberries, if desired.
