Ingredients
1 c. finely ground Flamin’ Hot Cheetos
1/4 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
Pinch kosher salt
1/4 c. granulated sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
3/4 c. plus 2 tbsp. aquafaba (210 g.)
Neutral oil, for frying
Powdered sugar, for serving
Preparation
Step 1In a medium pot over medium-low heat, heat 1" oil to about 350°. Line a plate or baking sheet with paper towels.Step 2In a large bowl, whisk Cheetos, flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cornstarch until well combined. Drizzle in aquafaba and stir until smooth. Transfer batter to a piping bag.Step 3Cut a ¼” hole in your piping bag and squeeze about ¼ cup batter into hot oil in a circular pattern. Fry until golden, about 3 minutes. Drain and transfer to prepared plate. Repeat with remaining batter.Step 4Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
This is a judgment-free zone, but I do have to give you the disclaimer that I did not want to make this recipe because I thought the world needed it. No—I made this monstrosity out of necessity, as a result of trying to come up with a dessert item for my 3-course meal challenge using Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. I had previously tried to make a Cheetos cake to no avail, but no one’s ever complained about funnel cakes—because frying makes everything taste better.
